The Best Shifts of 2022

Ahhh there has been some classics this year, it’s so hard to pick just a few! Of course, we could easily fill this list with concerts and festivals alone. So in the interest of fairness, we’re going to look back at the best shifts of 2022 from a range of different shift types!

In no particular order….

Westlife

As far as concerts go, Westlife packing out the Aviva Stadium was as big as they get! Two days on the bounce recounting the classics on a warm July night. Shifts like these are the ones not to miss!

Fleadh Ceoil

The world’s largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance. Mullingar really came to life this summer for the return of the Fleadh. You may have even caught the surprise performances from Niall Horan and Lewis Capaldi! No matter which side of the bar counter you stood, if you were at the Fleadh, you had a cracker of a time.

Rally of the Lakes

As if Killarney National Park wasn’t breathtaking enough as it is, watching the best rally cars Ireland has to offer flying around the tight twists and bends of Molls Gap and the like surely adds an extra flavour of excitement. Those lucky enough to pin down a spot as an event steward here got a little bit of work, a lotta bit of action, and a lump of cash in the bank a week later.

Clifden Station House Hotel

What makes this shift worthy of a highlight of the year you may ask? Well, for those Wrkstars who were in need of a mini getaway, a dream came true. For the best part of a month any Wrkstars working here were treated to a free room in the hotel, every night they worked! The beautiful natural landscape of Connemara surroundings, alongside scenic Atlantic views making it all the sweeter. Who doesn’t love a hotel breakfast??

Hella Mega Tour

With a main stage perfectly in line with the bar, Marley Park is the place to work if you’re looking to see a show! Hella Mega lived up to its name with the stellar lineup of Green Day, Fallout Boy and Weezer, with special guest Amyl and The Sniffers opening the show. Check out below the amazing view our Wrkstars had from their bar! As if that wasn’t enough, they finished on time to join the crowds for most of Green Day.

Honorable Mentions

Ed Sheeran took over half of Ireland on his tour this summer, giving many a Wrkstar a good show. Similarly, Tommy Tiernan made many an appearance. Some less common shifts such as the Ploughing Championships and the Aviva stadiums’ American Football Classic always offer something different, and of course how could we forget Ireland’s top festivals such as Electric Picnic?

Lets just hope we are so spoiled for choice in 2023!
